Raised by New England Methodists I (until I was a teenager) had very little exposure to the world outside of the Eastern United States. I grew up with puritanical values such as; you never speak about money, show respect to elders, work hard, get an education and do the right thing. In addition, we were never exposed to any ethnic groups except our own anglo saxon middle class friends and relatives.  However, if you could glance at how my life has played out you would guess that I had been raised by California hippies.  Continue Reading An unusual situation…

Again a Cliche?

I am about to start on a Masters program and my friend visiting from Alaska carelessly said “Oh, all my divorced mom friends are getting masters in counseling degrees right now, it seems the in thing to do when you get to be our age”. Sigh… apparently I am having a second go ’round as a cliche. Most of you know the whole “last one to know” story of my divorce, and my two clueless “other woman” situations.  But I honestly thought this decision was creative and forward thinking.  I really believe that with my personality and given the right academic tools I will make a good counselor.
